Good Day Templars!
On Thursday 10/31/2023 I made a last minute decision on plans for my weekend. I had been contacted earlier in the week about coming to the Abbey of Gethsemani in New Hope Ky to make a visit. The Abbey is a Trappist Monastery and has been there since the 1840s. I have been many times and typically go on Good Friday and stay through Easter. I decided to make a tour out of this trip leaving a day early to camp out in the Corbin Ky area with the hope I could contact Priory members and visit with them. Friday morning came and I contacted 1SGT Thomas Felts of St Luke Priory. He was welcoming and kindly met with me. We talked for a couple hours about many things and enjoyed the fellowship of being together as members of our Order and Priory. Thomas took me to the CAP office in Corbin and I was overwhelmed by the size of the operationI thank you 1St SGT for meeting with me.
Once I had left I was off to visit Brother Ken Glover of Eubank Ky. About an hour Northwest of Corbin. He also was welcoming and thrilled to meet with me. He was actually at his place of employment when we met. We still were able to talk for a good period of time and enjoyed meeting with him thoroughly. What a great start to my weekend.
Now it was Off to the Monastery for 2 days of complete discernment and prayer. The Monastery is a Silent Monastery so you only are to listen for Gods voice. It was good and I was in awe as usual at the state I found myself in. With over 2000 acres of quiet meditation filled walks and hikes I had plenty of time to just be alone with God.
After 2 days I arose Sunday morning early and was off again. This time Northwest into southeast Indiana near Louisville Ky with hopes of meeting up with 3 other Priory members in the area there. First I contacted Brother Mark (Mac) Cissell from Clarksville Indiana and he was welcoming and glad to meet up for some fellowship and we did just that. In fact we met near his home at a McDonald’s and he brought his laptop and we worked together to get him signed in to the academy and on his way. Of course I contacted the Prior who helped us with help from GP and Gm but it is all working out wonderfully. What a great hierarchy and so quick to dive right in and help. Thank you all!
After meeting with Brother mark and exchanging goodbyes I was off to my final destination before headed home. SGT Jon Durall and SGT Joy Lopez both from Charlestown Indiana.
They happened to be at their church when I arrived in town. They were actually just finishing up the services and then SGT Jon called. Again very welcome there by both. We met and talked awhile. Then they kindly asked me to lunch. It was most enjoyable meeting and sharing a meal together. We spent a good long while talking about the Priory our faith and Order business. Especially comforting to know that in the spring everyone is excited to have a weekend get together in the Natural Bridge area in Ky. So that is the plan for a Priory event. I hope!
It was so great to meet them all. The weekend was overwhelmingly good and God is with us. Thank you everyone for a most enjoyable weekend and especially the warm welcome from you all at the last minute request. God Bless you All!
