The Origin of the Word God
יהוה
This is the tetragrammaton. It is the ineffable name of God that we translate to Jehovah or Yahweh. In the Old Testament, the High Priest could pronounce this word only once a year in the Holy of Holies.
We have abbreviated this word to the word God based on the first letter Yod.
י
From this letter, not only do we get the word God, but we also get the word gosh.
Gosh - It originated as a euphemism or minced oath for "God" and can be seen as a less offensive alternative in everyday conversation.
In your daily speech, do you notice people using God’s name in vain?
