It is possible to know all the right things about God and still drift into spiritual complacency. We attend church, read our Bibles, pray, and serve faithfully, yet our relationship with Christ can quietly become routine. We begin living about God instead of living with God.
The church in Ephesus faced the same struggle. They worked hard, remained faithful, and defended the truth, but Jesus saw that something was missing—their first love. Their devotion had become duty. Their service had lost its passion.
Many believers experience seasons where worship feels ordinary, prayer feels dry, and God's presence seems distant. This does not mean God has moved away. Often, it is an invitation to draw near to Him again with a surrendered heart.
God never asks for perfect emotions; He desires willing hearts. Every day we have the opportunity to choose Him again—to seek Him with fresh hunger, to worship Him with sincerity, and to invite Him to rekindle our love for Him.
Instead of becoming discouraged by spiritual dryness, allow it to become a reminder that you need Jesus more than ever. He delights in reviving weary hearts and restoring joy to those who seek Him.
Life with Christ will always have seasons of highs and lows, but His love never changes. He continues to pursue us with grace, inviting us into a relationship that is alive, personal, and life-giving.
Today, choose not merely to know about Jesus, but to walk closely with Him. Ask Him to restore your first love and set your heart on fire again.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, forgive me for the times I have allowed my relationship with You to become routine. Restore the joy of my salvation and renew my passion for Your presence. Help me to seek You with all my heart and to walk with You each day, not out of obligation, but out of love. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit and revive my heart so that my life reflects Your goodness and grace. In Jesus' name, Amen.
