The Fear of God
Scripture:
“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom.” — Proverbs 9:10
Devotion
The fear of God is not a fear that makes us run away from Him. It is a holy reverence that draws us closer to Him. To fear God is to recognize who He is—holy, righteous, powerful, and worthy of all honor.
When we truly understand the greatness of God, we begin to take His Word seriously. We become more careful about our choices, our words, our relationships, and the way we live. The fear of God reminds us that our lives are not our own; we belong to Him.
The world often teaches us to fear people, circumstances, failure, or the future. But Jesus reminds us to place our ultimate trust in God. When we fear God above everything else, other fears begin to lose their power over us.
The fear of God also brings wisdom. It teaches us to turn away from sin, pursue righteousness, forgive others, and walk humbly before the Lord. It is not about living in terror of punishment—it is about loving God so deeply that we desire to honor Him in everything we do.
Today, ask yourself: Does the way I live demonstrate that I truly reverence God?
Let your faith be more than words. Let it be seen in your obedience, your character, your decisions, and your love for others.
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Teach me to fear You with a holy and reverent heart. Help me to recognize Your greatness and honor You in every part of my life. Give me wisdom to turn away from sin and courage to obey Your Word, even when it is difficult.
Remove the fear of people and circumstances from my heart. Let my greatest desire be to please You and walk faithfully in Your presence.
May my life bring honor to Your holy name.
In Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen.
Reflection:
When I truly fear God, I no longer need to be controlled by the fear of the world.
Have a blessed day
