Begin Again With God

There is something beautiful about beginning a new month with Sunday.
Sunday calls us back to God. It reminds us that before we begin another week, make another plan, face another problem, or carry another responsibility, we belong to Him.

Reflection
There is something beautiful about beginning a new month with Sunday.
Sunday calls us back to God. It reminds us that before we begin another week, make another plan, face another problem, or carry another responsibility, we belong to Him.
And today, on the first Sunday of September, God gives us an opportunity to begin again.
Perhaps August did not unfold exactly as you hoped. There may have been prayers that still seem unanswered, worries that followed you into this month, mistakes you wish you could change, or situations you still cannot control.
But God does not ask you to live September looking backward.
He says, “See, I am doing something new!”
Sometimes God’s new work begins quietly. We may not recognize it immediately. A door may be opening that we cannot yet see. A prayer may be moving toward an answer. A relationship may be slowly healing. God may be strengthening us through circumstances we would never have chosen.
And sometimes the wilderness itself becomes the place where we discover how faithfully God provides.
Today we are invited to stop trying to see the entire road ahead and simply place the month into God’s hands.
September belongs to Him.
The appointments we already know about and the unexpected moments we cannot anticipate. The joys and disappointments. The people we love. Our health, work, families, finances, responsibilities, worries, and dreams.
God is already there.
And because today is Sunday, we are given something even greater than a fresh calendar page. We are invited back to the source of our strength—Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist.
At Mass, we do not merely remember Christ. We come to encounter Him. We bring Him everything we carried through the week, and He gives Himself to us.
What better way could there be to begin a new month?
Do not allow yesterday’s failures to convince you that tomorrow cannot be different. Do not allow today’s uncertainty to make you believe God has forgotten you.
He is still working.
He is still making roads through wilderness places.
He is still bringing water into dry places.
And He may already be doing something new in your life that you have not yet learned to recognize.
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for this Sunday morning and for the gift of a new month.
Today I place September completely into Your hands.
Release me from regrets about what is behind me and from fear about what may be ahead. Teach me to trust You one day at a time.
Lord, open my eyes so that I may recognize the new things You are doing in my life. When the path seems unclear, remind me that You are already ahead of me. When I enter wilderness places, help me remember that You can make a way where I cannot see one.
Guide and protect my family and everyone I love. Provide for their needs and keep them close to You.
Bring healing to those who are sick, undergoing treatment, facing procedures, or recovering. Comfort those who are grieving or lonely. Give peace to those struggling with anxiety and strength to those carrying burdens no one else can see.
And as I worship You today, prepare my heart to encounter Jesus in the Holy Eucharist. May receiving Him renew my faith, strengthen my hope, and deepen my love for You.
Father, whatever September brings, help me remember that I will never face it alone.
You are already there.
Through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Thought for Today
“I do not have to see the whole road ahead. I only need to trust the God who is already there.”
Today’s Practice
Take a few quiet moments today and offer the entire month of September to God.
Name one burden you want to leave in His hands and one hope you want to entrust to Him.
Then, when you receive the Eucharist at Mass, quietly pray:
“Jesus, I trust this month to You. Make all things new in me.”
