My name is Mike Delaney; I am a 53-year-old Irish man.
I am a Master Carpenter by trade with 20 years’ experience, and a Mechanical Commissioning Engineer since I graduated as a mature student from college in 2017.
I have travelled around the world with work, and I have been blessed to have lived in many places, including the Holy Land for almost 4 months where I visited Jerusalem on several occasions, Betlehem, Nazareth and the Dead Sea. I visited the Templar Tunnels in Acre when there, and it left a mark.
I am a keen motorcyclist with over 35 years’ experience, having ridden and toured many places including the Ise of Man, UK, New Mexico, Colorado and Utah. I lived and worked in the USA for 18 months and loved every minute of it. I have also lived and worked in France, Sweden, Germany and Canada to name but a few.
I am an adventurer and amateur mountaineer, I have been to Everest Base Camp and climbed several “lower” mountains in the region, including Imja Tse which is a technical mountain standing at 20,305 ft above sea level. I have witnessed the sunrise from behind Everest, when I stood at 18,500 ft on Kala Patthar. I climbed to Herod`s Palace above the Dead Sea in Masada National Park Israel and saw the sunrise above the lowest place on Earth. I recently summited Kilimanjaro and was blessed to see the sunrise above the continent of Africa.
My favourite place in the world is Croagh Patrick, a Holy Mountain in the west of Ireland, where Saint Patrick is reputed to have spent 40 days and nights there. I have climbed it 41 times now, and it continues to call to me. I regularly visit historic Christian sites in Ireland, where our history still calls out to this day, places like Clonmacnoise, Skellig Michael, and Newgrange.
I have had a “calling” for several years now to the Knights Templar. I am fascinated by their rich history, strength and honour. Few things remain in high regard over time; the Knights Templar have outlasted that trial.
I wish to learn, understand and become part of history, part of something bigger than self. I am on a journey of self-discovery, and I wish to do good and help others. I look forward to my journey, I appreciate, trust and respect the people who have joined before me and look forward to their counsel.
In these strange times the world has become noisy and distracting, I choose to ignore that influence and seek peace, contentment and truth. I have rekindled my faith, and I see the evidence of God’s creation all around me, I see the biblical narrative come alive with evidence everywhere. Once your eyes are opened it is difficult to retract back to the common flock, but it is essential to walk the true path of the solitary shepherd. If it is possible to share that journey with like-minded folk then that is a good thing.
Thank you for taking the time to read my bio.
