THE FOUR BEASTS: A PROPHETIC WARNING FOR THE END TIME
Key Text: Daniel 7:1–28
The vision of the four beasts is one of the most important prophecies in Scripture. God revealed to Daniel the rise and fall of earthly kingdoms long before they appeared in history. This prophecy reminds us that while human empires rise with power and pride, God alone rules over history and His everlasting Kingdom will never be destroyed.

The vision of the four beasts is one of the most important prophecies in Scripture. God revealed to Daniel the rise and fall of earthly kingdoms long before they appeared in history. This prophecy reminds us that while human empires rise with power and pride, God alone rules over history and His everlasting Kingdom will never be destroyed.
The First Beast – The Lion with Eagle’s Wings
Daniel 7:4
“The first was like a lion, and had eagle’s wings… and a man’s heart was given to it.”
This beast represents Babylon, the empire ruled by Nebuchadnezzar. The lion symbolized strength and majesty, while the eagle’s wings represented Babylon’s swift military conquests. The wings being plucked and a man’s heart being given point to Nebuchadnezzar’s humbling and restoration by God (Daniel 4).
Lesson: No kingdom is greater than God. Pride always falls before the Lord.
The Second Beast – The Bear Raised on One Side
Daniel 7:5
“And behold another beast, a second, like to a bear… and they said thus unto it, Arise, devour much flesh.”
This beast represents the Medo-Persian Empire. Being raised on one side shows Persia becoming stronger than Media. The three ribs likely symbolize major kingdoms conquered by this empire.
Lesson: God raises kingdoms and removes them according to His divine purpose.
The Third Beast – The Leopard with Four Wings and Four Heads
Daniel 7:6
“After this I beheld, and lo another, like a leopard… which had upon the back of it four wings… the beast had also four heads.”
This beast represents the Greek Empire under Alexander the Great. The leopard and four wings illustrate the astonishing speed of Alexander’s conquests. After his death, his empire was divided among four generals, represented by the four heads.
Lesson: Human greatness is temporary, but God’s Word stands forever.
The Fourth Beast – The Terrible Beast
Daniel 7:7
“Behold a fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, and strong exceedingly… and it had ten horns.”
Unlike the previous beasts, this one is beyond description. It represents the Roman Empire and ultimately the final world power that will exist just before Christ returns.
The ten horns represent ten kings or kingdoms.
Daniel 7:24
“And the ten horns out of this kingdom are ten kings that shall arise…”
Many Bible students understand these ten horns to point to a final political alliance in the last days.
The Little Horn – The Final Antichrist Power
Daniel 7:8
“I considered the horns, and, behold, there came up among them another little horn…”
This little horn becomes a dominant end-time power.
The Bible says it will:
* Speak arrogant words against God.
* Persecute God’s faithful people.
* Attempt to change times and laws.
* Exercise authority for a prophetic period.
Daniel 7:25
“And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High…”
This prophecy is closely connected with:
* 2 Thessalonians 2:3–4 — the “man of sin.”
* Revelation 13:1–8 — the beast that receives worldwide authority.
* Revelation 17 — the final global alliance opposing God.
How Will This Happen in the End Time?
The Bible reveals that the final phase of world history will include:
* A global political and religious deception.
* Great persecution against those who remain faithful to God’s commandments.
* Miraculous signs that deceive many.
* Worldwide pressure to worship contrary to God’s truth.
* The rise of the Antichrist system before Jesus returns.
Matthew 24:24
“For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders…”
Revelation 13:16–17
“And he causeth all… to receive a mark… that no man might buy or sell…”
Yet God will also have a faithful people.
Revelation 14:12 (KJV)
“Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.”
The Final Victory
Daniel’s vision does not end with the beasts. It ends with the triumph of Christ.
Daniel 7:13–14
“I saw... one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven… And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom…”
The beastly kingdoms will pass away, but Jesus Christ will establish an everlasting Kingdom.
Daniel 7:27
“And the kingdom and dominion… shall be given to the people of the saints of the most High, whose kingdom is an everlasting kingdom…
The four beasts remind us that earthly powers are temporary, but God’s Kingdom is eternal. As the end draws near, believers must remain faithful, grounded in Scripture, and devoted to Christ. Do not be deceived by the spirit of this age. Stand firm in the truth, endure with patience, and keep your eyes on Jesus, the coming King.
Jesus is coming soon. Be ready.
