Many people think Christians are identified by the church they attend, the Bible they carry, or the words they speak. But Jesus gave a very different answer.
On the night before His crucifixion, during His final meal with His disciples, Jesus gave what He called a new command:

Many people think Christians are identified by the church they attend, the Bible they carry, or the words they speak. But Jesus gave a very different answer.
On the night before His crucifixion, during His final meal with His disciples, Jesus gave what He called a new command:
“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are My disciples, if you love one another.” — John 13:34–35 (NIV)
Jesus didn’t simply tell His followers to love others. He set the standard:
“As I have loved you.”
That kind of love is sacrificial, forgiving, patient, humble, compassionate, and unconditional. It serves instead of seeking recognition. It forgives instead of keeping score. It brings healing instead of division.
The greatest demonstration of this love was the cross, where Jesus willingly gave His life so that we could be reconciled to God. His love becomes the pattern for how His followers are called to treat one another.
This command is just as relevant today. In a world filled with conflict, hatred, division, and selfishness, Christians are called to reflect Christ by showing kindness, compassion, generosity, mercy, and forgiveness. Genuine love becomes a powerful testimony of God’s transforming work in our lives.
Loving others doesn’t mean ignoring truth or approving every action. Biblical love speaks truth with grace, seeks another person’s good, and reflects the character of Christ.
Imagine how different our homes, workplaces, churches, and communities would be if every believer truly lived out these words of Jesus.
The world may argue about many things, but Jesus said the clearest evidence of a true disciple is simple:
Love one another.

Heavenly Father, thank You for showing us perfect love through Jesus Christ. Teach us to love others with humility, compassion, patience, and forgiveness. Help us become people who reflect Your grace in our words, actions, and relationships. Let our lives point others to Christ through genuine love that honors You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
